FWD: The Power of Perception

Description: 1.1479976172@web124503.mail.ne1.yahoo.com

THE SITUATION

In Washington , DC , at a Metro Station, on a cold January morning in 2007, this man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, approximately 2,000 people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. After about 3 minutes, a middle-aged man noticed that there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds, and then he hurried on to meet his schedule.

About 4 minutes later:

The violinist received his first dollar. A woman threw money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk.

At 6 minutes:

A young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.

At 10 minutes:

A 3-year old boy stopped, but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head the whole time. This action was repeated by several other children, but every parent - without exception - forced their children to move on quickly.

At 45 minutes:

The musician played continuously. Only 6 people stopped and listened for a short while. About 20 gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32.

After 1 hour:

He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed and no one applauded. There was no recognition at all.
No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars. Two days before, Joshua Bell sold-out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100 each to sit and listen to him play the same music.
This is a true story. Joshua Bell, playing incognito in the D..C. Metro Station, was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people's priorities.
This experiment raised several questions:
*In a common-place environment, at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty?
*If so, do we stop to appreciate it?
*Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?
One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this:
If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made . . ..
How many other things are we missing as we rush through life?

Enjoy life NOW ..

it has an expiry date !

Unanswered Prayers

I recently read an article by Anne Cetas entitled "Unanswered":-

"One of my biggest struggles is unanswered prayer. May be you can relate. You ask God to rescue a friend from addiction, to grant salvation to a loved one, to heal a sick child, to mend a relationship. All these things you think must be God's will. For years you pray. Yet you hear nothing back from Him and you see no results.

You remind the Lord that He's powerful and that your request is a good thing. You plead. You wait. You doubt- maybe He doesn't hear you, or maybe He isn't so powerful after all. You stop asking- for days and months. You feel guilty about doubting. You remember that God wants you to take your needs to Him, and you tell Him your requests again.

We may sometimes feel we're like the persistent widow in Jesus' parable recorded in Luke (Chapter 18) of the Bible. She keeps coming to the judge, badgering him and trying to wear him down so he'll give in. Yet we know that God is kinder and more powerful than the judge in the parable. We trust Him for He is good and wise and sovereign. We remember that Jesus said we "always ought to pray nad not lose heart"

So we ask Him, "summon Your power, O God; show us Your strength , as You have done before" (Psalm  68:28). Then we trust Him... and wait"

Delay is not denial, so keep praying and not lose heart. This also personally reminds me of my dear friend who was suffering colon cancer for 4 years before he went home to be with the Lord. The friend is none other than Terry Gallagher which I have mentioned several times throughout my blog, Terry is definitely to be included as in Hebrews 11: 13 &16 " All these people were still living in faith when they died...they were longing for a better country- a heavenly one. There God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepare a city for them"

Therefore my friends, please never lose heart in seeking God's answer. At the end of the day, we live in faith that our hope will be fulfilled by the Almighty who delivered the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, who perform miraculous wonders that no one else is or will ever be able to perform other than Him alone.

Faith is a journey and not a destination. If we know every single thing that will happen in the future, then we would not need any faith in our lives.

Some atheist are so sure and convinced that God does not exist but they themselves are not even sure of their own future.

God bless us all.

Human love may fail but God's love never will.

Not everyone relationship, no matter how much love you put into it will guarantee a happy ending BUT through God's love for us, there's no doubt that there will be a happy ending. No matter how much the Devil wants to see God's death and destruction, Love will always prevail no matter how dark evil can be.

If you have experience God's love, its never a unsuitable time to "pass it on"

Time to move on?

Question:

I got a question from a friend recently asking when is a good time to move on from a failed relationship? When to give up?

Answer:

It will be time to move on when you're thinking about the relationship too much and it's not getting anywhere.

Post-answer comment:

I guess at the end of the day, anykind of relationships whether a special life-partner relationship to a friendship or even a pet-human relationship, it will always take two sides to maintain a healthy and happy relationship.

Except for a relationship with God, others will always have a chance to let you down but I am thankful that I am blessed with friends for nearly a decade that couldn't offer anymore genuine heartfelt friendships that one can ever ask for, for that thank you for being you, my friends and praise the Lord for all of you!

So it is your time to move on from something/ someone that bitters your soul? Wish them well in the heart and move on with your head held high because God still loves you.

Keeping aspirin handy...

Just a reminder to all: purchase a box, keep one in your car, pocketbook, wallet, bedside, etc.

IMPORTANT READ......

Something that we can do to help ourselves.

Nice to know.
Bayer is making crystal aspirin to dissolve under the tongue. They work much faster than the tablets.

Why keep aspirin by your bedside?
About Heart Attacks

There are other symptoms of an heart attack besides the pain on the left arm.
One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating, however these symptoms may also occur less frequently.
Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack

The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep, did not wake up.

However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.

If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water.
Afterwards: CALL 911
- say "heart attack!"
- say that you have taken 2 aspirins..
- phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by
- take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their arrival and...
DO NOT lie down

A Cardiologist has stated that, if each person, after receiving this e-mail, sends it to 10 people, probably one life can be saved!

My first break-up...

I recently look up on Facebook for my ex. I found her! I was really excited at first! Then it was a mixture of happiness and sadness but it has been more than 8 years now. Part of me still miss her dearly...but I am ready to move on fully.

If you want to hear the end of the story? No, I neither "poked" her nor "messaged" on Facebook.

I like this break-up song by Celine Dion, couldnt agree more with the lyrics...

Special Dedication- to DOTTY

Dotty,

What can I say about her. She's one of the two angels that God sent to encourage me throughout my college years, another being Maude.

Well, I'm going to share a conversation I had with my younger sister a couple of days ago. Being my little sister, I have often mentioned about Dotty, Maude...etc to her and how much God has blessed me with them.

My sister was having an English language exam- on speaking. So a group of candidates/ students were given a subject (and sub-topics) to discuss for 20 minutes which then, they would be evaluated. So the subject that the group my sister was in had " The greatest mother"...Under this subject, there is a list of situation which the candidate can choose and pick the greatest mother.

A. A single mother (raising a child herself)
B. A mother that gave up a successful career (just to be with her children)
C. A mother with a disabled child
D. A mother who adopts and love the children as her own

While other students in the group gave reason why should A, B, C Mothers should each be awarded the greatest mother award. My little sister chose D and defended her choice solely based on her brother's friend which is Dotty. My sister told the group, that a mother who adopts and love the children as her own flesh and blood deserved the award because her love exceed beyond conventional terms and even to others of not her own flesh and blood.

I am touched with the fact that Dotty have such a profound impact on my younger sister who doesnt know Dotty personally, have reminded me again, and how much Dotty and her family welcomed me into their home and family three years ago.

Dotty and her husband have foster a couple of children and is currently looking after a brother and his older sister.

Yeah, yeah you might said...people like Angelina Jolie have adopted many but I would like to add that Angelina Jolie adopted several kids out of her wealth. While Dotty and Brett truly adopted the kids out of love eventhough they have to work several jobs and gave up their vacation to make sure their kids are happy.

So, Dotty, thank you for being yourself! I too agree with my little sister that Dotty deserves the greatest mother award.

Thank you God, thank you Dotty.

Special Dedication- to MAUDE.

M- Meticulous

A- Adorable

U- Understanding

D- Dedicated

E- Energetic

October 2010 will be the full 7th year of friendship with Maude. A wonderful lady given by God to me and the world.

Maude is a meticulous, keeping everything in order and well planned. There's always plan B, plan C and also plan D. With Maude managing the wonderful support community AASC (My second home). I know it will be in good hands forever.

Maude is adorable. Everyone just wants to be friend with her because of her sociable behavior and friendly nature. Her caring and genuine concern showed even to a stranger are among the most valueble quality.

Maude is understanding. Talking about having an understanding friend. Maude is truly one in a million. Her understanding of a person's difficult situation is simply amazing.

Maude is dedicated. When her princess (daugther) lost her hair due to alopecia areata. She devoted her life and time towards alopecia support and awarness, its been nearly 8 years now...and she is still going without slowing down a pace. Hundreds of alopecia patient have benefited from her charity and campaign if not thousands!

Maude is energetic. This is particularly true, when she is around her friends. She would just be around them sharing story, laugther...and simply just by her friends side accompanying them.

Of all, I want to thank God for a friend like Maude, an angel, a friend, a sister in my life and have been part of my life for 7 years already!

Thank you God. Thank you Maude.

Psalm 23

Picture taken during one of my farm visit The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters,
He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake,
Eventhough I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
Your rod and your staff; they comfort me.
You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

FW: Three "stupid" stages in life

Three apparent "stupid" stages in life

__________________________________________________________

TEEN AGE = HAVE Energy + HAVE Time - NO Money ="Stupid" Life 1
__________________________________________________________

WORKING AGE = HAVE Energy + HAVE Money - NO Time = "Stupid" Life 2
__________________________________________________________

OLD AGE = HAVE Money + Have Time - NO Energy = "Stupid" Life 3

__________________________________________________________

But I say life is so beautiful if we know what trully matters in life. Teenage = there is so much beautiful and worthy things could be done without the need of money (Eg. lending a helping hand to a senior citizen...etc). Working age= there is also much beautiful things could be done without the need of much time (Eg. buying a gift and writing a short note to an orphan during Christmas). Old age= the most graceful stage of life (No energy but full of wisdom unless you think energy is more beautiful than wisdom)

God bless, hope you all enjoyed and all of us learn something today...:)

5 Dont Series (Part 3)

DONT SLEEP WITH A MOBILE PHONE NEAR YOU

Putting the phone beside your bed or anywhere near you while you are sleeping is not encouraged. Though some of us will use phones as alarm clocks but please put the phone as far as possible. Scientists have proved that electrical items including mobile phones and television sets emit magnectic waves when used. These waves caused disruption in our nervous system. therefore if you need to put a mobile phone near you when you're sleeping, switch it off first.
